Method : while the board is moving laterally, the system grabs an image from the front end of the board. The grain orientation is computed and the heartwood position is estimated. This enables sorting according vertical grain (“rift”), diagonal grain (“half rift”), flat grain (“flader”) . Moreover, curve of the cross section may be measured.
| Board transfer | crosswise |
| Board width | 50 - 230 mm |
| Board thickness | 50 - 230 mm |

| Wood surface | clean |
| Annual rings | with visible contrast |
| Power supply | 110-230 V AC, 50-60 Hz |

Front End Scanner FES-150 is a welcomed completion of the LuxScan product range. With that scanner device, it is possible to inspect continuously the front ends of more than 80 boards/min in lateral transport. Following features can be detected: vertical grain (“rift”), diagonal grain (“half rift”), flat grain (“flader”). Furthermore the cross sectioncurve of the end of the board can be measured precisely as well. This measured attributes per board are used for further technologically decisions regarding board positioning, turning or cutting purposes.
(width and thickness) and theThe FES-150 is highly accurate and robust. It can be used as a “stand-alone” measuring gauge or can be integrated and combined with all the other scanning products of LuxScan in order to determine and compute complex cutting or sorting decisions.
The system is developed in Windows environment and built-in network connections.
